Assistive Technology Services
TASK's assistive technology services help children with disabilities, their parents, adults with disabilities, and professionals explore assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) solutions. Through online demonstrations of specialized applications, educational websites, and adaptive equipment, these services can provide resources to help enhance learning, communication, and independence.

Assistive Technology (AT)
Assistive technology (AT) includes tools and equipment that help people improve their skills. AT can make learning easier and support greater independence. It can range from “low-tech” devices, like pencil grips for fine motor support, to “high-tech” solutions, such as eye-controlled augmentative communication devices, and more.

Individualized Lab Appointments
Individualized Lab Appointments allow people the chance to explore assistive technology solutions that may help with learning and independence. During a one-hour appointment, a TASK staff member will show you useful apps, websites, and other technology. (Note: These appointments are not formal AT assessments.)

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
What is AAC? Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication that help people who cannot speak or have difficulty speaking. AAC can be used as a temporary or permanent solution. It can involve simple tools like picture boards or more advanced technology like speech-generating devices. AAC helps individuals express their thoughts, needs, and feelings, making it easier for them to connect with others and participate in everyday activities.

Project Communicate!
Project Communicate (AAC Consultation) is intended to support families with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) questions and serve as a resource for the initiation and development of AAC acquisition and implementation. Please note that it is not an assessment. We do not provide AAC systems, devices, or applications.
